Grand Opening, Grand Gesture!

A unique cake welcoming Barks, Bones & Biscuits to the neighborhood! There were red velvet and white cake cupcakes underneath the sugar bone!
Saturday, February 1, 2014, marked the Grand Opening of a new dog bakery & boutique, Barks, Bones and Biscuits, in Mint Hill NC (in the SE Charlotte Metro area). We had met the owner, Robin Kline, at several pet-themed events over the past year and McGrady had taken quite a shine to her bakery’s line of treats. Thus, Fabulous McGrady and Friends Foundation and McGrady himself were honored when Ms Kline called to tell us that she’d like to have her Grand Opening also serve as the kick-off of a donation drive for the Foundation!

The idea for the shop came after Ms Kline and her daughter visited a similar establishment. Her daughter pointed out her mom’s love of baking and noted, “you should do this!” The Mint Hill storefront is the culmination of a year spent attending various local and distant events spreading the word about the business.
The Grand Opening was attended by Greyhound and Mastiff rescues as well as Camp Bow Wow. There was a steady flow of both 2- and 4-legged traffic.
Barks Bones and Biscuits has graciously agreed to play host to one of our new donation barrels for the month of February. This means that you can drop off gently used or new pet-related items that you aren’t using into the barrel. While you’re there, be sure to check out the unique artful items in the bonetique and the handmade dog treats! The store is still expecting more inventory and will be getting in different items throughout the year so check back with them regularly.
Fabulous McGrady and Friends received a $15 cash donation but also received a large bag of gently used collars/leashes and blankets as well as a box of tiny rawhide bones that were donated to Mastiff rescue. . The founder of a new company, PooBoss, which makes canine utility vests with a patented built-in poop bag dispenser, saw the Grand Opening and took the opportunity to share some sample vests with the attendees. She saw our donation bin and gave us the remaining vests to share with the rural shelters/humane societies that we assist. McGrady was also very happy to receive his own personal vest. In addition to the fact that these vests allow a dog to carry many items, the vests are generously-sized with a long length of strap for adjusting the fit under the belly. This meant that a medium was quite comfortable and spacious on McGrady. PooBoss is in the second round of competition to appear on the CNBC series, Shark Tank, and would appreciate support for the dog lover community. We wish them well!

When we received the vest donation, we immediately thought of a hard-working rural group, Wilkes County Humane Society, in North Wilkesboro NC. They frequently take their foster animals out to adoption events. We thought these vests, with their bright colors and big reflective strips, would be great eye-catchers for such events as well as great for holding treats, waste bags and other items for each dog. Today we sent off 6 to our WCHS contact and look forward to pictures of their foster dogs in them!
Again, we’d like to extend a huge thanks to Barks, Bones & Biscuits for allowing us to have our first ever “in store” event/donation drive! McGrady would also like to extend a personal thanks for the fabulous bag of peanut butter biscuits Ms Klein sent home with him!
