Sheley with McGrady at Southern Women’s Show 2014

 Sheley R Revis, MD-Founder, President/Treasurer of FMFF

Sheley has spent many years involved in the rescue of Australian Shepherds.  During those years she found herself in and out of many rural animals shelters in NC, SC and Eastern TN.  She met many dedicated, hard-working staffers and volunteers trying very hard to help highly adoptable animals make it out of the shelter but struggling to do so due to lack of rescue networks, budgets already stretched thin in counties suffering from loss of industry/tax base, and their remote locations.  During her time in rescue, she held several different roles, including National Volunteer Coordinator for a National Aussie Rescue, and also coordinated long-distance transports, evaluated shelter dogs, fostered shelter dogs, processed adoption applications, etc.  After learning that McGrady’s former shelter (Ashe County NC Animal Control, which had given him 35 days despite suspecting him to be deaf) was running low on food/supplies due to an unexpected influx of animals due to owner job losses, etc, Sheley realized that McGrady’s “reason for being” was to serve as the face of the awesome animals one can find in rural animal shelters as well as to provide help to those shelters…and Fabulous McGrady and Friends Foundation was born!   Sheley is a board-certified General Internist in practice since 1995 in Charlotte NC.  Her office walls are dotted with many pictures of her personal dogs & cats.  She very much enjoys hearing patients’ stories about how their personal pets deeply enrich their lives and, in some cases, are their own personal “reasons for being”.  She has even been known to give a dog training tip or two during office visits.

Her first Aussie, Ninja has taught Harriet both how fun the breed is, and also the importance of choosing the right dog for your lifestyle– Ninja keeps Harriet busy, running with her between 40-60 miles a week, and has helped her train for several marathons and ultramarathons. A writer originally from the UK, Harriet got her BA from Newcastle University and her Masters from Durham, both in the north of England.
